My wife and I are currently rocking iPhone 5SEs. Yeah, I know. And my sons have our old 5Ss. I just bought a 6S from my neighbor for $100, and I was hoping to do something similar for my wife so we can pass our old phones down to our kids. Is there a good place to find good used phones online? Can’t afford to go with new. Kind of like my cars.

http://www.swappa.com is where I’ve bought all my phones, worked out well each time. Currently have a Pixel XL I bought from there.

Swappa is a good site to check out, or the ‘Bay of course

I have heard of them. Thanks.

I have a first gen Pixel I could send over for like $100 CDN.
I am sending down some US packages in the next week anyway.

I’ve got an old iPhone 6 sitting in a drawer collecting dust, the battery is beyond trash though.

Seconding Swappa. Mileage may vary as you’re ultimately buying from random people on there - but you should be good as long as you know what you’re getting yourself in to (check their sales history, ratings, if they offer any kind of warranty/return policy, etc.).

Thanks, but we’re staying in the Apple$p here.

eBay, Gazelle, Swappa are good but you’ll pay a little more than you would in a similar “neighbor happens to be selling one” kind of situation. Might be worth looking on Amazon as well.

Neighbor recently replaced both glass and battery. It’s in great shape, or so it seems.

Gotcha! No problem

Oh, I fully expected to pay more. Neighbor is doing me a solid.

Might also luck out on LetGo or CL, but uh, you know...that whole robbery/murder thing. Wait, I may have a 7 laying around...

Both are easy and cheap to replace. I’ve done it multiple times on various iPhones and haven’t failed yet! If you buy one needing these items, buy the toolkit for $5. It’s worth it.

I’m going to spout some sacrilege here. Take a look at refurbished phones at Gamestop. If you get their warranty, they are pretty good at swapping out phones at most of their stores. I bought one for my mom. She drowned it a couple of months later. She took it to the nearest GameStop and they swapped it out, no questions asked. https://www.gamestop.com/browse/cell-phones?nav=13ffff11db-6
You might also look at NewEgg. They have LOTS of choices and their search tools are better than most. https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100167543%2050001759%204016%204823

My wife reminded me that we gave the extra 7 to my sister. Also check local repair shops, a lot of them sell used items as well. One down the street from me sells 6s for around $200.

I have a dead iPhone 4. It’s great for throwing at kids when they don’t get out of bed.

That sort of repair is above my courage level.

Good calls. I bought click wheel iPod at GS years ago, and it’s still going strong. I keep it in the van for tunes. And I had forgotten about New Egg. I always feel better buying from a business rather than an individual.

And the fact that they do a imei check is good.

I’ve got a couple of those lying around. Plus a couple of dead iPods. I should try that. I need a derrick to get one of my boys out of bed.

It’s really, really easy. If you can replace a lost screw in a pair of eyeglasses, then you have the dexterity to deal with the tiny screws on a phone. Just watch a couple of the videos to see how it’s done. Practice by taking apart an old/broken iPhone.

I play songs from frozen on an old iphone and hide the phone in the closet or under his dresser. The kid (12 years old) will bolt out of bed to turn that phone off every singe time. He doesn’t like it but it works better than the water sprayer method.

Thanks. I’m going to try to buy a phone that still has some good life left in the battery.

... is one of those an old 30-pin not-a-fucking-phone iPod?
![]() 12/05/2018 at 12:47 |

You sound like my dad, he would pull shit like that all the time. The worst being hiding an old phone or ipod touch connected to my speakers turned all the way up with an alarm set to when he wanted me out of bed. Would resort to water sprayer if that didn’t work.
![]() 12/05/2018 at 12:48 |

Yup. I had a couple of them before I got my first phone.

We frequently prank each other with those little blue tooth speakers. I’ll stash one in one of the kids rooms then pull up some cat meow or some other strange sound.

We have an old 5s sitting around , but you already have one of those so assuming you’re looking for something newer . It’s literally being used as an alarm clock...we could use an alarm clock for that purpose.

I’m perfectly happy with my 5SE, but my twins can’t play Fortnite mobile on their 5s. Normally, I wouldn’t make a change just for that. But they should be modernized a bit, and Christmas would be a good time to do it.
![]() 12/05/2018 at 13:14 |

I tried to get a 128GB SE from someone on there right after the model got discontinued. They flaked.
![]() 12/05/2018 at 13:15 |

IDK, they will pry my SE from my cold, dead fingers
![]() 12/05/2018 at 13:16 |

What kind of dead iPods? I might be interested in taking them off your hands.
![]() 12/05/2018 at 13:21 |

I’ve got no quarrels with my 5SE. It’s the perfect size. But if I’m going to upgrade my boys’ phones, I can’t break the bank on a brand new one. And I might as well step up a little bit.

Do you do any kind of auto repair? It’s easier than any of that! There’s free documentation online that’s 100x better than a Haynes manual. You just need $5 in tools, patience, and a steady hand.

I’ve got one 2nd gen iPod Touch (A1288) . $24 on eBay! I’ve also got an iPhone 4S (A1387) and an iPhone 4 (A1332).
![]() 12/05/2018 at 13:26 |

No, wait. Just found three more iPods. A1288, A1288, A1318. One of the 1288s is engraved, “Merry Christmas, Mommy. Can we play with your iPod?”

And courage. I do not do much auto repair. But I have repaired my gas dryer a number times, and repaired my mower. All it takes is basic tools, knowledge, and courage.

Oh, all touches? I’m interested in clickwheel iPods. Sorry, shoulda specified.

That sucks, I’ve bought probably 5 or 6 phones from there and my dad has bought 2, all without issue. So I imagine your problem i s not the norm when it comes to swappa .

I’ve actually got two old iPhones and four old iPod touches.
